Devicha Gondhal

Various forms of Bhuvaneshwari

Bhuvaneshwari Devi

Bhuvaneshwari Bhilwadi, opp. audumbar Dattatreya Kshetra at Sangli District.

Bhuvaneshvari is the Queen or ruler (feminine, Ishvari) of the universe or realm of beings (Bhuvana). She is the Divine Mother as the Queen of all the worlds. All the universe is her body and all beings are ornaments on her infinite being. She carries all worlds as a flowering of her own Self-nature. She is thus related to Sundari and to Rajarajeshvari, the supreme Lady of the Universe.
The Goddess represents space. Space is the Mother or Matrix in which all creatures come into being. She is the field in which all things grow. She is the receptive spirit who gives space to allow all things their place and function. She is the cosmic womb that gives birth to all worlds. As space, Bhuvaneshvari is complementary to Kali who is time; they are the two main faces of the Goddess as both the infinite and the eternal. Bhuvaneshvari creates the stage on which Kali performs her dance of life and death. At the stage Bhuvaneshvari is also the witness, the observer and the enjoyer of the dance.
As Kali creates events in time, so Bhuvaneshvari creates objects in space. All events are merely episodes in the Devine Mother Kali who is time. All places are merely phases of the dance of the Divine Mother Bhuvaneshvari who is space. The Goddess is the place, the field, the matrix in which we act to manifest the Gods. Knowing her as the ground on which we stand and the reality which pervades us, we gain the capacity (Shakti) to accomplish the highest actions, which are the practice of Yoga. Returning to her passive presence, we ourselves become the field in which the Gods, the cosmic powers, can be born and assume their roles in the cosmic creative unfoldment.
Bhuvaneshvari is the cosmos (Bhuvana) personified as Goddess. Worshipping her promotes a cosmic vision and absolves us from the narrowness of opinion and belief. She helps us go beyond all identifications with creed, class, race, sex, nation and religion, to a universal understanding. She gives us world vision, a global understanding, and a sense of the infinite.
As the power that measures out the universe, Bhuvaneshvari is called Maya, which also means illusion. When things are measured we are in their limited forms and forget the underlying unitary space in which they appear. This is how illusion arises. All manifest forms are merely waves in the infinite space of the Divine Mother. We must learn to see the space of the Mother, which is the embrace of consciousness, in all apparent objects of world, and no longer take their diverse forms as reality.
As Kali is the power of Action (kriya-shakti) and Sundari is the power of Knowledge (jnana-shakti), Bhuvaneshvari is the power of Love (iccha-shakti). Love creates space and provides freedom. It does not limit or try to posses, which is the action of selfish desire. Yet the space of love is not an empty or unfriendly space, it is a space that nurtures and gives room to grow and flower. If love does not give space, it is not a Divine Love.
Bhuvaneshvari has a form like Sundari, whom she resembles in many ways, which reveals her beneficent nature. She has the colour of the rising sun, with the crescent moon on her head, with four hands and three eyes. She holds in two hands the noose and the goad. With her other two hands she gives the gestures that grant boons and dispel fears.
The mantra for Bhuvaneshwari is the single syllable Hirim. Hirim is one of the most important of all mantras. It is called the Devi Pranava, or the equivalent of Om for the Goddess. Hirem refers to the heart (Hridaya). It also relates to Hri, which is modesty.
Bhuvaneshvari as the Mother can be worshipped through the mantra Ma, which is the natural sound for mother. This mantra, like Hirim, can be used for the Divine Mother in all her forms. The Divine Mother is called Shri Ma (respected, beautiful or resplendent Mother), which can also be used as a mantra for her.

Reference of goddess Bhuvneshwari in Gurucharitra

भिल्लवडी कृष्णातीरी शक्ती असे भुवनेश्वरी
तेथे तप करिती जरी तेचि ईश्वरी ऐक्यता
गुरुचरित्र अध्याय पंधरावा ७७

Chapter 17
A Dull Brahmin boy becomes learned
Shri Guru observed Chaturmas living under the Audumber tree near Bhuvaneshwari secretly. Still his name and fame spread in all the quarters.
Namdharak-Why Shri Guru lived secretly? Why did he observe anushthan and asked for alms?
Siddha-Shri Shankar and Shri Guru Dattatreya like to beg alms. Shri Guru roamed through holy places for protecting his devotees. People came to him and harassed him for trifles and hence he lived secretly. But though the Kasturi is hidden, its fragrance cannot be hidden, similarly brightness of Shri Guru could not be hidden.
There lived at Kavir a learned Brahmin who knew the Vedas. He had a dull foolish son. His parents died in his childhood. When he was seven, his thread ceremony was celebrated, but he could not do Sandhya and recite `Gayatri' mantra. Local Brahmins abused him saying, `your father knew Vedas and Shastras; but you have spoiled his name. Your life is worthless. Chintamani is best among the beads, so is the knowledge for a person. A man is honored for his knowledge. A King is respected by his people; but even a king respects learned persons, as knowledge is wealth.'
The boy requested them to suggest means for his improvement. The Brahmins said, `you will have knowledge in the next birth. You should beg for your maintenance in this life.'
The boy being dejected went to a forest. He was thinking of giving up his life. In the evening he reached Bhilavadi. He took Darshan of Bhuvaneshwari and sat at the door of the temple. Next morning he cut his tongue and placed it at the feet of the goddess and said, `If you do not be kind with me. I shall even offer my head at your feet.'
That night he had a dream in which Devi appeared before him and said, "Oh Brahmachari, why are you getting angry with me? There is an Avatarik Purusha sitting under an Audumber tree on the bank of the Krishna. Go to him. He will fulfill your desires."

He woke up and at once ran and crossed the river. He rolled at the Guru's feet and started praising Him. Guru was pleased with him, blessed him and put his hand on his head as Varad Hastha. At once the boy got knowledge and enlightenment. He also got his tongue back.
If a crow has a dip in the Manasa-Sarovar it will become a Hamsa (swan). So also he who touches Guru's feet will acquire all knowledge. Guru is Almighty. His glory needs to be sung.

Bhuvneshvari godess

At the bank of river krishna one the finest temple of bhuvneshvari opposite to Datta kshetram Audumbar. there is good development in the temple of bhuvneshwari. She is also called as Tripursundari. Bhuvneshwari is the goddess of prosperity and life . she gives Name and Fame to her devottees . There is a Tantra and Mantra of Bhuvneshwari devi mentioned in Vedas, Devi bhagwatam, etc.

The fourth Great Cosmic Power in the Hindu pantheon is Bhuvaneshwari, or Bhuvanesi, as She is also named in certain areas of India. This Great Cosmic Power is worshiped as the Great Goddess who protects all manifested worlds. This attribute of the goddess is also suggested by Her name: the Glorious Queen, or the Governor (Ishwari) of the whole realm of creation, with all the worlds (Bhuvana) which are contained in Her.

Her ardent worship attracts the cosmic vision of the Reality, surpassing thus any limits imposed by a certain opinion, or belief. The goddess's help is manifested mostly in the area of overcoming any types of false identifications and preconceived ideas, including ideas about social classes, race, religion, nation, etc., sublimating these at the level of global, superior understandings.

Bhuwaneshwari is the space in which God’s endless will and love manifest. Indeed, always the pure and deep feeling of a sincere and unconditional love offers the feeling of space and infinite freedom.Such sublime love does not limit a person’s options and does not try to obtain or keep anything for itself, manifesting always altruistically. On the other hand, the ineffable space of love represents a nurturing space granting the people who are capable of it as well as to their loved ones the possibility of growing and develope. We may state that if love does not create the feeling of space and freedom, it does not represent a divine love, but it is merely the egoist expression of a possessive and non-spiritual affection. It is known the fact that such affection leads the persons in cause to absurd states of suffering and attachment especially when it is manifested through a fierce jealousy.
